Optics, Display, General Tech Blogs
Karl Guttag’s blog - Karl was the founding CTO of Syndiant LCOS, Navdy HUD (head-up display) for cars, and an IT fellow who has extensive experiences in semiconductor manufacturing, display technology, companies and suppliers in AR industry. His articles cover a lot of both display technology and product part of AR.
Vision Science, Related Research Labs' Websites
SCIEN Stanford Center for Image System Engineering - Founded by Professor Gordon Wetzstein, a very good technical community with industrial experts, research lab focus on AR/VR/vision/optics/imagining R&D, they have recurrent seminars in some semesters.
General, Display, Optics, Related Tech Communities’ Websites
Society of Information Display (SID) - The organization, chains of companies and people that organize the world’s largest display technology focus conference Display Week. Members, in general, have deep technical, material science, and manufacturing experience, knowledge, and influences.
SPIE. The international society for optics and photonics - The largest community focus on optics and photonics; the organization behind the world’s largest photonics conference Photonics West.

Informative Books, Journals
Applied Digital Optics: From Micro-optics to Nanophotonics. By Bernard Kress who is one of the lead on optics at Microsoft Hololens, and Patrick Meyrueis. Though we have different choices of optical methods and work on different products, I found Bernard to be one of the most knowledgeable and helpful experts on AR/VR optics, other related photonics topics, especially diffractive optical elements and the manufacturing methods. I learned a lot from his books, course materials and talks on diffractive optics. Bernard also organized the AR/VR Industry Talk, mixer, and demo event annually at SPIE Photonics West conference.
Head-mounted Display: Designing for the User. By James Melzer, and Kirk Moffitt. I took James’ class at Photonics West a couple of years ago, there are a lot of useful, and interesting studies. A lot of them seem counter-intuitive in the first place but true. When study or build for human vision, the edge cases matter.
